Good Afternoon Community,

The staff of the Stevenson-Carson School District has been working hard to prepare for the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. Many things are different due to opening remotely, but one thing remains the same. Your children will be cared for, nurtured, and supported by a team that is giving their whole hearts to making this experience as positive as possible. Regardless, I recognize that many challenges remain and that it is stressful for families to navigate these difficult times.  I hope a few new points of information will alleviate some concerns. Do know that we will continue to be creative in finding solutions that address obstacles. If you have specific needs, please reach out to your building secretaries and principal so they can assist you. No matter what, we will make sure all children receive a meaningful education.

  • Weekly meal service will be provided to all children during remote learning. Food can be picked up at Carson Elementary each Thursday, beginning September 10th. Each child served will receive five breakfast and five lunch selections. Meals are available from 6:00-9:00 am and 4:00-8:00 pm. We hope these flexible times will allow for convenient options that support families.
  • There will be three “Internet Café” locations available throughout the district, by appointment, for families without internet or adequate connectivity. More information will be available early next week. This is allowed even though we cannot yet open schools as each household will have a separate space to work that can be sanitized between uses. There will be careful guidelines to follow, but hopefully this offers a helpful option.
  • A limited supply of hotspots will be available to support connectivity as needed. Building principals will work with each family in need to determine if this is the best solution for their unique situation.
  • The State of Washington is providing some financial assistance for internet service. More details will be coming to districts in the next few days and we will communicate information as soon as we have it.

Thank you for your partnership and support as we begin our year of learning. I look forward to next week and helping every family start the year in a positive manner. Together, we are finding a way to chart a new path!

Warm Wishes,

 Ingrid L. Colvard
